(Finished).

Two-year Cooperation Project to promote and develop seismic and geological studies in El Salvador. The bottomline goal is the reduction of seismic risk. Specific objectives include a better geologic assessment of the El Salvador Fault Zone system (aligned with the volcanic chain), the quantification of current deformations with GPS techniques, the distribution of stresses indicating areas that are prone for future earthquake occurrences and the characterization of earthquake-triggered landslides. The project also includes a chapter for capactity building of local professionals and scientists.

This project is complementary with the RESIS II project  Seismic hazard and vulnerability assessment for Central America, funded by NORAD and partly coordinated by Dr. B. Benito.
