The RESIS II project is the continuation of a sequence of cooperation projects with Central American countriesled by NORSAR since 1990. The focus in RESIS II is evaluation of earthquake hazard, vulnerability and risk under the cooperation philosophy “learning by doing”. The main  objectives are:

  • Earthquake risk reduction for targets that are of major importance to the society: public-service buildings and facilities as well as residential buildings and dwellings. Results include mitigation recommendations that can be realistically implemented by owners and authorities.
  • Institutional and professional earthquake risk capacity-building in Central American contries, following the strategy of learning by doing. Educational courses, workshops and meetings with local partners are part organised.
  • Information dissemination and awareness creation activities for adequate and timely involvement of strategic target population (private owners, national and municipal authorities, urban planners, infrastructural development and ownership of relevant buildings and facilities.

The project involves all countries in Central America but has the main focus on El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala. Within each country, the project aim is to collaborate with several institutions.
